A middle repetitive DNA element, Candida albicans repetitive element-1 (CARE-1) has been isolated from the pathogenic yeast C. albicans. CARE-1 appears to be species-specific and constitutes approx. 0.045% of total C. albicans DNA, or a reiteration frequency of about two to twelve copies per haploid genome.
