BACKGROUND: X-linked ectodermal dysplasia with immunodeficiency (XL-EDA-ID) is described in patients with hypomorphic mutations in IKBKG (the inhibitory kappaB kinase gamma gene), which encodes nuclear factor kappaB essential modulator (NEMO).
