The key regulatory enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of the plant hormone ethylene is 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) synthase (EC 4.1.1.14). It catalyzes the conversion of S-adenosylmethionine to ACC, the precursor of ethylene.
