There are only about 30 commercially available cell lines which include small supernumerary marker chromosomes (sSMC). As approximately 2.5 million people worldwide are carriers of an sSMC, this small number of immortalized cell lines is hard to understand. sSMC cell lines provide practically unlimited material for continuing studies e.g. to learn more about marker chromosome formation, or karyotypic evolution....
