A Gram-negative, short rod- to coccus-shaped, non-spore-forming bacterium (Ch05(T)) was isolated from granules in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, strain Ch05(T) was shown to belong to the subclass alpha-Proteobacteria, being related to Paracoccus solventivorans (97.5%), Paracoccus alkenifer (96.9%) and Paracoccus kocurii (96.4%).
