Focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS) is known as one of major renal complication of mitochondrial cytopathies. Glomerular epithelial cells are primary pathogenic sites in FSGS lesions. Glomerular epithelial cells are regarded as terminally differentiated cells and do not proliferate.
