Mutations in the genes coding for the soluble and the membrane-bound hydrogenase of Alcaligenes eutrophus strain H16 significantly affected the expression of respiratory chain components. In lithoautotrophically grown wild type cells electron flow mainly proceeded via the cytochrome c oxidases.
