Cyanobacteria produce glycogen as their primary form of carbohydrate storage. The genomic DNA sequence of Synechocystis sp. PCC6803 indicates that this strain encodes one glycogen-branching enzyme (GBE) and two isoforms of glycogen synthase (GS).
