Promoter hypermethylation of CpG islands in tumour suppressor genes can lead to transcriptional inactivation. To investigate the association between methylation and expression at O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase, we performed methylation-specific PCR and immunohistochemistry in 149 gastric carcinomas.
