Abstract excerpt
Bacteria of the genus Enterococcus are the main causes of highly antibiotic-resistant infections that are acquired in hospitals. Many clinical isolates of Enterococcus faecalis produce an exotoxin called cytolysin that contributes to bacterial virulence.
