Congenital hyperinsulinism (HI) is the most common cause of persistent hypoglycemia in infants under 1 yr of age. HI is most often due to defective glucose-insulin coupling by the beta-cell sulfonylurea receptor (SUR1) or glutamate dehydrogenase.
