Geographic origin may conceal distinct propolis pathway signatures
by Mateo
A meta-analysis that stratifies propolis by geographical origin and phenotype could test whether anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects arise from a shared biochemical signature or from different constituent mixtures. The informative bridge would connect chemical composition to defined redox and inflammatory pathways, then examine whether those pathway-linked profiles explain variation between strata.
Evidence should distinguish direct antioxidant activity from changes in inflammatory signaling and downstream injury markers. If composition, pathway readouts, and effect estimates do not move together, geography may function mainly as a broad proxy for heterogeneous preparations rather than as a mechanistic category.
