A strain of a hitherto undescribed coryneform bacterium from human clinical material was characterized by phenotypic and molecular taxonomic methods. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis demonstrated the strain represents a novel and deep lineage within the genus Corynebacterium sensu stricto.
