For a better understanding of the molecular and biochemical processes involved in orthophosphate (Pi) uptake at the root/soil interface, we cloned a Pi-transporter c DNA (LePT1) from a root air-specific cDNA library of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.).
