The biosynthesis of leaf carotenoids in Nicotiana benthamiana was altered by forced re-routing of the pathway to the synthesis of capsanthin, a non-native chromoplast-specific xanthophyll, using an RNA viral vector containing capsanthin-capsorubin synthase (Ccs) cDNA.
