A genetic marker for identifying transgenic Musca domestica by changes in eye color is described. The Drosophila melanogaster tryptophan oxygenase gene, vermilion (v), was tested for its ability to genetically complement the mutant tryptophan oxygenase gene in houseflies homozygous for green (ge).
