Acquired vancomycin resistance in enterococci may be associated with teicoplanin susceptibility (VanB) or teicoplanin resistance (VanA). This paper characterizes the first instance of in vivo emergence of teicoplanin resistance in an Enterococcus faecium strain of VanB phenotype.
