Cytogenetic studies of Erinaceus europaeus from a Spanish population, including C-banding, simultaneous Ag-staining of nucleolus organizer regions (NORs) and G-banding, and chromomycin A3 staining, are described. With regard to the number and morphology of chromosomes, Spanish hedgehogs showed a karyotype very similar to that described by Mandal for Northern Europe specimens, referred to as the WII karyotype....
