The spore-forming bacterium Paenibacillus larvae causes a devastating brood disease of honey bees (Apis mellifera) named American foulbrood (AFB). It occurs worldwide and can lead to the death of whole colonies. Presence and prevalence of this pathogen in Palestine were unknown.
