Molecular genetic studies have revealed extra-pair paternity (EPP) in monogamous avian species including several penguin species. Therefore, this study investigated the parentage of captive gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua) in Japanese zoos and aquariums by analyzing 10 microsatellite loci.
