Individuals with pathogenic variants in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes have an increased risk of developing breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. BRCA variants can be of germline origin (ie, inherited) or arise spontaneously during tumor development (ie, somatic).
