Chandipura virus (CHPV) is a single-stranded negative-sense RNA virus of the family Rhabdoviridae. CHPV is transmitted mainly through infected sandflies. CHPV paediatric encephalitis reported in 2003-2004 in central and south-western parts of India had a case fatality rate of ∼70%.
