BACKGROUND: Mucopolysaccharidosis type IVA (MPS IVA), also known as Morquio A syndrome, is a rare lysosomal storage disease characterized by autosomal recessive inheritance of mutations in the N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfatase (GALNS) gene.
