Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited retinal dystrophy caused by the loss of photoreceptors and retinal pigment epithelial atrophy, leading to severe visual impairment or blindness. RP can be classified as nonsyndromic or syndromic with complex clinical phenotypes.
