Recent concerns have arisen in Australia regarding detections of the exotic bacterium Ehrlichia canis which has resulted in ehrlichiosis outbreaks. In Australia, it is spread by the tropical brown dog tick Rhipicephalus linnaei, formerly Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato tropical lineage.
