BACKGROUND: Zingiberoideae is a large and diverse subfamily of the family Zingiberaceae. Four genera in subfamily Zingiberoideae each possess 50 or more species, including Globba (100), Hedychium (> 80), Kaempferia (50) and Zingiber (150).
