Timely programmed cell death (PCD) of the tapetum supplying nutrients to microspores is a prerequisite for normal pollen development. Here we identified a unique mutant of rice (Oryza sativa L.), pollen sterility (post), which showed aborted pollens accompanied with extra-large husks.
