Giardia duodenalis (syn. G. intestinalis and G. lamblia) is a protozoan parasite that cause disease (giardiasis) in humans and other animals. The pathogen is classified into eight assemblages, further divided into sub-assemblages, based on genetic divergence and host specificities.
