Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) are pathologic low-resistance conduits between a pulmonary artery and vein. Over 80% PAVMs occur in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and result from mutations in the transforming growth factor-beta signaling pathway.
