Plants have evolved complex physiological and biochemical mechanisms to adapt to a heterogeneous soil phosphorus environment. PHOSPHATE2 (PHO2) is a phosphate (Pi) starvation-signaling regulator involved in maintaining Pi homeostasis in plants.
