Between 1 August and 6 September 2013, an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease (LD) with 78 cases confirmed by positive urinary antigen tests occurred in Warstein, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Legionella (L.) pneumophila, serogroup (Sg) 1, monoclonal antibody (mAb) subgroup Knoxville, sequence type (ST) 345, was identified as the epidemic strain.
