BACKGROUND: X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) deficiency is a rare immunodeficiency that is characterized by recurrent hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and splenomegaly and sometimes associated with refractory inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
