Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococcus; GBS) is a common cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis. Intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis is effective in reducing neonatal GBS disease. Penicillin is recommended for intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis; however, other antibiotics are administered to pregnant women with penicillin allergy.
