INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND: Peripheral vascular disease is the leading cause of limb ischemia (LI). LI is manifested by claudication, ischemic rest pain, ulcers or gangrene. It is the result of peripheral arterial disease due to atherosclerosis.
