The Müllerian inhibiting factor (MIF) is responsible for regression of Müllerian ducts during male sexual differentiation. Mutations in MIF or its type II receptor lead to persistence of the uterus and Fallopian tubes in male children--i.e., persistent Müllerian duct syndrome (PMDS).
