Following the introduction of the DNA hybridization technique several genotypes have been separated from the older phenotypically described Aeromonas species. Work has been undertaken on some arbutin-negative psychrotrophic Aeromonas strains. These were differentiated into three genotypically and phenotypically identifiable groups.
