Ten strains of Paramecium bursaria and also P. caudatum, P. multimicronucleatum, P. tetraurelia strains (as outgroups) were characterized by using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD), Amplified Ribosomal DNA Restriction Analysis (ARDRA) and sequencing of the non-coding ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions.
