The developing brain is particularly susceptible to seizures. Diffuse central nervous system pathology or injury in early infancy, when the brain is most vulnerable, may lead to catastrophic epilepsies such as Ohtahara's epileptic encephalopathy and early myoclonic epileptic encephalopathy.
