A novel Gram-stain-positive bacterium, designated R19-04(T), was isolated from a soil sample from Rishiri Island, Japan, and its taxonomic position was investigated by a polyphasic approach. Cells of strain R19-04( T) exhibited a rod-coccus cycle. The peptidoglycan type of the isolate was A4alpha; lysine was the diagnostic diamino acid.
