A taxonomic study was performed on two isolates, strains RF3(T) and RF21, recovered from a thiosulfate-oxidizing enrichment culture. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that these isolates were clearly affiliated with the class Betaproteobacteria.
