Hantaviral sequences were recovered from the lung tissue of an Asian house rat (Rattus tanezumi) captured in Serang, Indonesia. Phylogenetic analysis of partial L, M and S segment sequences showed that they belonged to a novel hantavirus provisionally named Serang virus (SERV).
