Some aspects of physiology of Serratia marcescens pigmentless variants with elevated nuclease activity were studied. The variants are characterized by a higher respiration rate when glucose, glycerol, inositol or maltose are used as an energy substrate, a higher respiration quotient, a lower growth rate, a lower economic coefficient, and a lower thermogenesis.
