Green sulfur bacteria contain chlorophyllous pigments, chlorophyll (Chl) aPD and bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) aP, esterified with Delta2,6-phytadienol and phytol, respectively, which would be produced by reduction of the geranylgeranyl group at the C-17 propionate residue.
