Two sandfly species of the genus Phlebotomus from three different regions of Italy were examined by horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. Eleven loci were used for allozyme analysis. Data showed that there are two diagnostic loci, Idh and Lap-1, (for which different alleles are fixed in the two species) useful for the identification of these species.
