The cloning of abiotic stress-inducible genes from the moss Physcomitrella patens led to the identification of the gene PpTSPO1, encoding a protein homologous to the mammalian mitochondrial peripheral-type benzodiazepine receptor and the bacterial tryptophane-rich sensory protein.
