To investigate the diversity of dioxygenase genes involved in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-degradation, a total of 32 bacterial strains were isolated from surface mangrove sediments, from the genera Mycobacterium, Sphingomonas, Terrabacter, Sphingopyxis, Sphingobium and Rhodococcus.
