Genes that control the thickness of our skin and its vulnerability to chemicals in the environment play a role in the development of contact dermatitis and atopic eczema. Sensitive skin manifests itself as a burning, stinging or itching sensation following the application of topical products such as soap, bubble baths and cosmetics.
