Nicotianamine is a methionine derivative involved in iron homeostasis, able to bind various other metals in vitro. To investigate its role in vivo, we expressed a nicotianamine synthase cDNA (TcNAS1) isolated from the polymetallic hyperaccumulator Thlaspi caerulescens in Arabidopsis thaliana.
