Abstract excerpt
Ovules of higher plants are the precursors of seeds. Ovules emerge from placental tissue inside the gynoecium of flowers. Three elements, funiculus, chalaza, and nucellus, can be distinguished along the proximal-distal axis of the outgrowing radially symmetrical ovule primordium.
