Muscle weakness in patients with thyrotoxicosis during hypokalemic episodes (thyrotoxic periodic paralysis [TPP]) occurs sporadically and mostly in males. It is treated by infusion or oral supplementation with potassium and with resolution of the thyrotoxicosis state.
